- 14. Jesus says to his disciples: "Compare me, and tell me
whom I resemble." Simon Peter says to him: "You resemble a
righteous angel!" Matthew said to him: "You resemble a wise man of
philosophy!" Thomas said to him this: "Master, my mouth is wholly
incapable of speaking to this whom you resemble" Jesus said this: "
I am not your Master because you have drunk, and are inebriated from the
bubbling spring from which I have measured." Then he withdrew with him
and spoke three words to him. However, when Thomas came back to his
companions, they asked him this: "What did Jesus say to you?"
Thomas answered them: "If I should say to you <even> one of the
words he has spoken to me, you will take stones and cast them at me, and fire
will come out of the stones and consume you!"
- 15. Jesus said to them: "If you fast, you will beget sin for
yourselves; if you pray, you will be condemned; if you give alms you will do evil
to your spirits!. If you enter into any land and walk through the countryside,
and if they receive you, eat what they put before you. Those who are sick among
them, heal them. For what goes into your mouth will not defile you, rather what
comes out of your mouth is what will defile you!"
- 16. Jesus says: "When you look upon Him who is not begotten
out of woman, prostrate yourselves on your face and worship Him: He is your
Father!"
- 17. Jesus says: "Perhaps men think I have come to cast peace
onto the world, and they do not know that I have come to cast division upon the
earth: fire, sword, war. For if there are five in a house, three will be against
two and two against three, the father against the son and the son against the
father, and they will rise up, being alone."
- 18. Jesus says: "I will give to you what the eye has not seen,
and what the ear has not heard, and what the hand has not touched, and what has
not come upon the mind of man."
- 19. The disciples said to Jesus: "Speak to us about how our end
will come to be." Jesus said: "Have you revealed the beginning, that you
seek after the end? For where the beginning is, there the end will be. Blessed is
he who arises from the beginning; he will know the end, and will not taste death!"
- 20. Jesus says: "Blessed is he whose beginning is before he came
into being!"
